Spotlight On A Bright, Happy Home by Jenn Feldman Designs
Sometimes in life, people get what they deserve. Such was the case with today’s Spotlighted designer, Jenn Feldman.
It wasn’t until after I had found her work, scrolled through every project in her portfolio, and subsequently–and telepathically–saluted her design genius that I made my cursor’s way over to her About page.
To her credit, it should be noted that the proceeding factoid is certainly not the first thing mentioned about Jenn. It doesn’t even make the first paragraph. This, I suspect, is because her work speaks for itself; those who can do don’t need to name drop as the old saying goes. That said, when you’re the possessor of Nate Berkus’s endorsement, the winner of Oprah’s first design contest, and a guest on the Oprah show (RIP), you find a way to weave that into the second paragraph.
So, yeah, J. Feldman got what was coming to her is what.
What strikes me about Jenn’s work isn’t merely her ability to produce an impressive range (from high-drama, high-glamour, high-contrast to today’s more subtle and serene aesthetic), it’s that no matter the particular style of the space, it still manages to feel happy and upbeat. Find me another designer who can so easily make an all-black space feel not the slightest bit ominous, moody or aggressive, but stylish, interesting, and, despite the dark hue, bright.
Fiend that I am, it’s her white-blue-gold combo in this family home that earns my marks and a spot on the blog. It’s fresh, it’s contemporary without being overly trendy, and, mainly, it feels a really happy home, indeed.
