Simple Systems: Sarah Von Bargen of Yes and Yes
I can’t quite recall how I stumbled on Sarah Von Bargen’s blog Yes and Yes, only that I’m glad I did. In a (virtual) sphere where homogeneity seems to run amok, Von Bargen manages to publish a lifestyle blog that feels undeniably original: a true story series features first-hand accounts of some strange and intriguing circumstances, a monthly “network of nice” connects people seeking certain information or services with those able to offer them, and on. I’m so pleased that today, Sarah takes a turn with the Simple Systems series.♦
There are two types of people in this world: moderators and abstainers. I can’t be trusted to moderate my consumption of some things (CARBS AND CHEESE!) so I abstain. As such, I’ve made an active choice not to have a data plan on my phone.
As someone who already struggles to stay in the moment, I don’t need another way to disengage or distract myself. Do I need to check email at the bar while my friend tells a hilarious story? I do not. Do I need to take a photo of my food while everyone else is singing ‘Happy Birthday’? I do not. Do I need to appreciate the awesome people in my life when I’m in their company? Yes, I do.
