Glass Display Boxes

October 10, 2013

Back when I was in France, I happened upon this impossibly chic little jewelry store. What made it so wasn’t the jewelry, particularly, between you and me, but the method of display. The most streamlined glass boxes populated every surface, and inside lay the goods. It was a classic case of the French exhibiting, once again, just how little they need to purposefully aim for la mode, since the mode for them is something rather more akin to breath or eyeballs or other things one is born with. A bust? What’s a bust? Or a tree? Or a pair of antlers? You silly Americans with your jewelry storage. Here’s a glass box. Boom. Take it or leave it, and we know you’ll take it because hello.

From that point forward I was hooked. I googled the glass box during every free moment, and then became irrationally worked up when several searches came to naught. All I wanted was a damn glass box for thoughtfully displaying baubles and keepsakes and such. No thank you, Decoupage, I don’t want the fancy ones. Just give me the glass.

Evidently the only retailer to carry the exact glass display boxes I had in mind was West Elm–that’s was, because they absolutely stopped carrying them some time ago. But that wouldn’t stop me; and so, with the crazed fervor of one in-lust and yes maybe a tad obsessive compulsive, I frickin’ found some glass boxes. And now, dear readers, I invite you to partake in the bounty of my tireless quest.

Love these boxes! Thank you so much for all the research. Now I have to make a choice. Which one did you choose?

You could also try browsing your local thrift shops. Apparently there was a small trend (some decades back) of gluing dried flower arrangements in glass boxes..?

After I found two perfect glass boxes at one thrift store, I started noticing them at others, all with some unfortunate dried or fake greenery… Either a trend or someone in my area is spreading their dozens of flower boxes throughout the city donation centers, lol.

In my case the glued flowers popped right out after gently easing the edges with an exacto. The gold-edged glass boxes sit happily on my desk now!

Thank you so much! It is nice to know that I am not alone in my quest for the perfect glass box ever since a trendy store nearby had them but then sold out!
