Simple Systems: Sarah Faubus of Boxwood Clippings

June 6, 2013

Sarah is one half of the sister tag-team over at Boxwood Clippings, a blog that I admire for its dedication to both aesthetics and thriftiness. The B.C. sisters regularly deliver up big time servings of quick and easy DIY projects, sources for affordable homewares and fashion, and beautiful photography. Happily, her Simple System seems to combine all three…

Little areas of organization can make a huge difference in a home, and functionality is key to making things work long term.

In our hallway we had a huge problem when it came to clutter, and although I tried to tackle the problem my nagging at my husband to take his shoes upstairs, surprisingly it didn’t work…at all!

Our hallway is very narrow and not ideal for storing things, but it’s where we enter the house and therefore it became a clutter spot.

To solve the issue I simply made a home or a temporary spot for the three things that were hanging out there; shoes, mail and bags. I used a beverage bucket to hold our shoes, and above that a hook for bags. We also added a narrow set of drawers for bits and pieces and a notice board to pin up all our important mail.

This system works brilliantly, it’s easy place things where they belong on a daily basis, and then weekly I just go through and place them in their permanent home. Best of all, I don’t have to nag, we all know there’s a place for everything making our home a little less stressful, which invites a little more peace!

Where did you get the set of drawers? I’d love something similar for our entry area!
