Pill Boxes: For the Little Bit of Senile In All Of Us
What I’m about to tell you, pumpkins, is shameful for me to have to admit.
I take two pills, one in the morning and one at night, and that isn’t the shameful part. No, what’s shameful is that for excuse me years now, I have been willingly suffering from pill-taking black outs. In the event that you’re unfamiliar, I shall acquaint you with how this looks:
1. One takes one’s pill.
2. Five minutes pass, and one realizes one has no recollection of taking said pill.
3. One sits there, staring into oblivion, trying to recall the events of the past handful of minutes.
“Okay, think, do you remember unscrewing the bottle cap?”
“Ah, I don’t know!”
“Okay, okay, what about the water, what water would you have used to take it? Is the water level in that glass missing the correct centimeter needed to swallow the pill?”
“I don’t know! I can’t remember, I tell you!”
“You’re an idiot.”
And that for the past way too long, day after day. I mean, that is totally not living simply, we agree? I should mention, this blacking-out is not generally a characteristic of mine; no, what I have is pill-specific amnesia. There’s got to be a clinical term for that, and if so, maybe there’s a pill I could take? (I’m sorry, that was so easy, and I knew that it was, and then I just went and reached for it anyway).
Two days ago, after another episode of pill-nesia, I decided enough was most certainly enough. So I marched my little (big) butt right on over to the store and bought myself a pill box, one compartment for each day of the week, AM and PM. And you know what? Stuff works! No wondering, no accidental double-dosing, and if any moment of doubt arises, you just check the little box– no pill, you took it! You’re good to go!
All this is to say, if you’ve been on the fence about whether to invest the $7 in a pill box of your own, I highly encourage you to break out the buck, buy the damn thing, and forever rid your life of at least one moment a day of marveling at your own stupidity.
Have a happy weekend!

This started happening to me when I had my baby – I seriously could not remember if I had taken a pill or not. I would set reminders in my phone and it still didn’t help.
I went and bought the exact same pill box as in your pictures – mine is purple too. Since then I haven’t missed a pill 🙂

Glad you also attest to the power of the pill box!

I do the same thing, so you had me laughing all the way through this post! There is also a fancy-pants iPhone app called Pillboxie that lets you add all your prescriptions, set reminders, and check off boxes when you’ve taken each one. Saves the space the actual pill box would take up in my teeny-tiny bathroom!

OMG, I do this every single day! Mostly with my vitamins and then I’m super fearful of overdosing on vitamins. 🙂 You’re so right. I need one. I love your tips Annie!

O my gosh this is hysterical because we suffer with the same black outs!.. I take a pill 3 times a day and I can not tell you how MANY times I take my night time pill and then 5 mins later I cant remember if I took it but I know I can’t take another if it’s another one cause that would be too much but what if I didn’t take it I won’t sleep tonight and on and on.. LOL.. Great post!
