It’s A Pre-Weekend Release Party!
So much of our culture is about addition and accumulation. We’re constantly barraged not only with things to buy–thereby adding to our material load–but also with goals to take on, projects to tackle, expectations to live up, standards to uphold. Be better; do more; have it all; do it all; know it all; shame on you! Why haven’t/don’t you yet? Begin again! That’s the chatter we internalize on a daily basis.
In response, rhetoric about ways to enlighten ourselves and abate the crazy has entered the mainstream. It’s wonderful…and, it’s also another entire set of things to which we ideally would like to hold ourselves accountable.
We now can be so much and have so many that many of us spend our days spinning in mental circles, just looking for a loophole, an escape route, a way to relieve some of the pressure.
Here’s what.
In the interest that is at the heart of all of this (LIVE SIMPLY), let’s lighten our loads in any way starting now. Let’s resolve to release the trivial or major things that we’re just plain and tired of subscribing to, perpetuating, or creating. We’re done caring about them. Let’s make it true by speaking (typing) those things aloud to each other.
Here are 5 of mine:
- I’m done with those “Morning Routines of 5 Successful Women,” “6 Things Every Person On The Forbes List Does Before Breakfast,” “blah blah blah” articles. I don’t care. I’m done with convincing myself I have an inkling of interest because I feel I should. Guess what I’ve learned from any such pieces I’ve done in the past? Everyone does it differently. The only real secret is to do what works for you.
- I’m done feeling sometimes-kind-of weird about shelling out for organic, indulgent skin care products. Because I’ve decided taking really good care of the one face I get in this life is a value of mine, however vain.
- I’m done with flight-booking feeling like a hugely stressful task. It really isn’t. It’s just a choice. So find the best option with regards to time and date, book the thing and be done. Anxiety = not warranted.
- I’m done with not paying the utmost attention to my intuition.
- And here’s one I really, really want to be done with lately: being critical of me.
Now, I’m dying to hear from you; what 1-5 things are you done with or desperately trying to say goodbye to?? Please share in the comments below. I want this to be a repository of release, and I want us to find strength in each other’s life-editing.
I hear there’s a popular Disney movie, the theme song of which goes something like…”LET IT GO.”

I’m done with: 1) Reading the boards that Pinterest sends me by email (based on what I’ve already looked at). I delete those emails immediately. Now I look at Pinterest only when I initiate the search! Time saved=priceless.
2) Believing cosmetics reviews. I’ve bought countless concealers because they were someone else’s “Holy Grail.” None of them worked on me. Now I’m buying based on healthful ingredients and to hell with dark circles.
3) Buying stuff I don’t need. I shop my own things and most times find stuff I don’t remember even owning. This is also a good time to purge, because I usually figure if I haven’t used it by now, do I really need it? Probably not!-
LOVE these.
re #1: Honestly, I wish ALL the social media platforms would never give me ANY recommendations or updates. Twitter gets me all the time. “These two people are tweeting about this.” I DON’T CARE! WHY ARE YOU ALLOWED TO BOTHER ME WITH THAT?!? 😉
2. So true, what is holy grail for some is wasted dollars to another.
3. THANK YOU girl.

1. Done with obsessing about weight.
2. Done with most enlightening health emails I receive, also usually touting programs to be fit over 40, lose belly fat, avoid cancer and alzheimers, etc.
3. Done with paper clutter in my office!-
1. UCH. yes.
2. UCH. yes.

1 – Done with the constant worry about my career. I want to be brave and find my passion.
2 – Done with not having the perfect home.
3 – Done with missing out on the journey… I want to enjoy the little things and be more greatful!-
Wow, love these so much Nikki. Everything you’ve listed is really just a reference to wanting to be more present to the beauty of what IS. NOW. And to be done with all the ways you’re distracted from, or pulled out of, that awareness. The most important things to release for sure. xx

When I was a manager, I trained myself to listen for the vision expressed in complaints. People complain because they have an idea of an improved situation. When someone said a negative, I found that a positive “flip side” of the statement had more power to motivate change. In that spirit, I would like to state my “done with” as this: “Cultivate curiosity.” That means I cease judging others and myself and enjoy a sense of wonder at the world and what life brings me.

Love it.
Also, that interpretation of complaining is truly brilliant. THANK YOU for sharing it!

I’m done trying to solve other people’s problems- futile!
I’m done making assumptions about people’s behavior- it most likely has nothing to do with me.
I’m also done with feeling “bad” about holding people accountable and being an advocate for myself.Phew! Thanks for asking!

I’m done explaining myself.
