The Ideal Kitchen: Toe Kick Vacuum
If we could build the perfect room from scratch, what would it look like? What features would it contain? Let’s have ourselves a little daydream…
Right around the time I was writing that one spring cleaning post about kitchen crumbs, I stumbled across a kitchen design feature that blew my domestic world right open.
I’m no stranger to the concept of a central vacuum, that is, a vacuum that is built in to the house. You pull a hose out of a magic lidded door in your wall and go to town. That sounds cool and all, but now picture something more localized. Picture a dirt-suctioning mechanism that is positioned precisely where you need it. And! Picture your dustpan being rendered completely unnecessary. No more bending over awkwardly, no more moving the dustpan back a centimeter seven times in a row in attempts to get those straggler crumbs.
What I’ve just described isn’t just a house-mirage. Shit’s real:
The toe kick vacuum a.k.a. the automatic dustpan.
