The Ideal House Feature: A Home Gym With A View
If we could build the perfect room from scratch, what would it look like? What features would it contain? Let’s have ourselves a little daydream…
If you want to know a surefire way to uncover a person’s main priority or passion here’s what: ask them what they’d do with their spare room.
“Make believe that one morning you awake to discover your space has undergone a growth spurt in the night; a whole bunch of square footage has bloomed just for you. How do you use the room?”
One person might tell you she’d create an expansive sewing room. Another, a recording studio. That kid over there might report that she’d turn the room into a candy factory where Elsa or whoever hung out constantly and also there were swings and finger paints and–
If you want to know what I’d choose, I’ll tell you that it’s unequivocally a home gym. We all have our personal definition of luxury and an entire room (temperature most controlled, of course), (superG floors, a given) devoted to exercise is mine.
Only, why is it that so many home gyms are relegated to the miserablest, darkest corners of people’s abodes? The deep, inner basement where no light shall pass. The garage, amid the cars and storage racks. Listen, I would take either of those in a heartbeat, most gratefully I should say. But since this is ideally speaking…well, I say let the light in on to your personal fitness studio! (Or mine.)
So now, of course, I want to know: how do you use your spare room??

Annie,
This is first time I have TWO rooms, one is my home office and the other I made into a meditation/yoga room. When guests come I have an inflatable mattress in there and they love the energy of it.For me this is TOTAL BLISS at home. I will always remember living in this place as long as I live!
Do it – get yourself a space and set the intention! Thanks for all your inspiration.

I’m currently looking to buy my first home, and one of the features at the top of my wishlist is a big, beautiful (empty) room that will be my dance & yoga studio.
