Whose Power Is It, Anyway?
True power is not, as is so often thought, dictatorial, oppressive, or corrupting. Power is the force of our authenticity, the knowledge that we are worthy of being here, and the confidence that relying on our intuition provides. Being in our power, counterintuitively, is what allows us to relax.
From this stance, we know when to hold firm and when to be flexible. We hold the line between compromise with others and self-sacrifice. We communicate directly rather than placating others. We say “yes” when we mean yes and “no” when we mean no.
Those who lack connection to their power belittle, undermine, and micromanage. Theirs is merely a falsely manufactured sense of authority that may be achieved through abuse and gaslighting. It is weakness and fear wearing a manipulative hat, nothing more.
Those who are empowered empower others. They purposefully surround themselves with empowered people because they understand that power does not compete, but begets itself.
It doesn’t matter how long you may have contorted yourself pretzel-like to prop up someone else’s need to feel large-and-in-charge. Stand in the strength of your truth. Decide there is no person better equipped to design your life than you. Realize no one (least of all yourself!) benefits from your playing small.
Your power source resides within you, waiting for you to tap in.
