Monday’s Meditation: On Following Your Calling

February 24, 2014

Here’s a head’s up:

We need you to be your most excellent self. In fact, we’re counting on it.

Your life, your livelihood, and your decision of whether or not to follow your true calling does not merely affect you and your immediate social circle. It affects us all.

Why?

Because the world needs the specific talent and gift you have to share, whatever it is.

You, like all of us, have a unique role to play. No one can fill your void, because not a single one of us has within us the particular mix of genius that you do. No one can contribute in precisely the way you are able.

If you fail to embrace your purpose, if you coast through life without consciously considering your greater significance, you will not only disappoint yourself, but the entire world will be left incomplete.

That your gift might be strange to some or highly specialized is not something to be embarrassed by, but to recognize the need for even more fully.

It doesn’t matter if your brilliance lies in designing residential sidewalk curbs, studying the optimal density and circumference of a potato chip, or repairing grand pianos. If it is your authentic gift, your inexplicable obsession, your indisputable knack, then it is your responsibility to share it virtuously with the world.

We are waiting.

We are counting on you to rise to your highest, most creative, most productive self.

What’s it to be?
