10 Seriously Cool Power Strips
The most foolish thing you might possibly do (not really) would be to underestimate the importance of a power strip.
It all starts with the strip, see. I know this as a result of having wrestled at least three dozen cord tangles.
Bad power strips (made so by inefficient design, incorrect number of outlets, or just plain in-sight ugliness) leads to messy cord habits, leads to webs so thick one must hack at to get through, leads to clutter. We knew it was headed there eventually.
The right power strip, on the other hand, and more importantly, an extraordinary one, has the power (ahem) to transform once crazy chaotic tech hubs into straight up LS stuff.
Here are ten that get my vote and hopefully your outlet.
1. Kensington SmartSockets 6-Outlet 16 feet Cord Table Top Circular Color Coded Power Strip and Surge Protector Evidently a superstar in the conference room, this guy has six outlets, each color coded for easy cord identification, not to mention a crazy long cord, itself, and a lifetime product warranty to boot.
2. Quirky Pivot Power 6 Outlet Flexible Surge Protector Power Strip You know those bulky plugs that hog at least two outlets, forcing you to sacrifice a perfectly good outlet? Well, this genius product solves that situation by allowing you to bend and position the six outlets in the position most optimal for you. This means not only can you accommodate obnoxious plugs, but you can also strategically situate the entire strip around various furniture items.
3. Socket Sense 6-Outlet Expandable 1080 Joules Surge Protector with 3-Feet Cord An alternative solution to bulky plugs, the Socket Sense expands up to eighteen inches, allowing you to leave as much space as needed in between individual outlets.
4. Invisiplug 6-Outlet Surge Protector with 2 USB Ports and 900 Joules Protection This gets my vote hands down for prettyboy of the bunch. In fact, I do believe it’s the finest looking power strip seen, not merely here, but, like, anywhere. The concept is that you buy the shade that best matches your wood floor; out in plain sight it blends right in. But honestly, this is probably the only power strip I wouldn’t mind being visible.
5. Jason’s Super Power Strip from ModCloth Here’s another option for the aesthete, although, decidedly a different sense of taste at that. Bold, yellow, lightning bolt. Kapow! And such.
6. Kensington SmartSockets Basic 6-Outlet Color-Coded Power Strip and Surge Protector A solid option, this power strip has color coded outlets to match the color strips provided for your cords.
7. Quirky Extension Cord Prop Power This is genius. Three outlets at your disposable. Basically. Plug the strip in, and then wrap it or bend it or any way you want it and you’ve instantly got an outlet at your fingertips. Hell, maybe just wrap it around your own wrist and make yourself the outlet. Who’s a slave to the cruelly stunted length of an iPhone cord now, huh Apple?
8. Monster Audio Video PowerCenter This strip has everything, including a slim design, color-coded and labeled outlets, audio/video cable connections, and evidently mad impressive surge protection skills, made more evident by the company offering a $300,000 connected equipment warranty. Stefon would be all both-hands-covering-mouth excited over it.
9. SUG7 Wireless USB/Remote Controlled Smart Strip Rather than the typical control/on off switch, this power strip comes with a wireless remote that allows you to easily provide or cut power to four outlets. Heyy energy efficiency. But, it also gives you two outlets in the “always on” bracket. Smart. But wait! It also has two USB ports. Winning.
10. Belkin 8 Outlet Pivot Surge Protector with 6ft Cord and Telephone Protection To round it out, a real heavy duty of a thing. Massively long cord, lots of outlets, all of them pivotable, a perfect option for tech heavy hubs.
