Organizing Product Favorites: July 2014

July 30, 2014

I bought them by the caseload, hauled them all over town, installed them in all the homes, and couldn’t have organized without them–my top picks from the month of July.

(Psst: as there was no June Favorites you might as well consider these dual-month qualifiers.)

1. Totally Bamboo Expandable Utility Drawer Organizer

Certainly mentioned before, (probably in this post on my top drawer organizers, although I’m entirely too tired currently to bother checking) these bamboo organizers are always a solid option. My client picked them for their aesthetic value, and we decked out every drawer in that kitchen with one of these. It’s sort of like a culinary palace now.

2. Anchor Hocking 10-Piece TrueSeal Storage Set

I rescued that same client from a life of plastic tupperware treachery, which I’ll have you know is like, a huge feat. Here’s how I did it: I got rid of all the tupperware. All the mismatched lids, pathetically half-melted containers, the ones stained by a bowl of leftover spaghetti circa the year tupperware was invented, take out containers posing as legitimate food storage–good-ahbye.

Here’s what I did next: Gave her a set of these glass food storage containers.

Airtight seal. Uniform. Nest-able. Rescue.

3. OXO Good Grips Turntable

I’ve had quite a few clients express an interest in using lazy susans lately, and it’s a curiosity I’m happy to oblige.

Don’t overcrowd the turntable and you’re a twirl away from always having it all.

4. Deep drawer bins  &  5. Linus Pantry Binz

Still in my favorites; every size, all the rooms, for every client. Measure first (duh).

These are so good at what they do and so frickin’ versatile it makes me agitated in an over-excited way. They manage to make every space look clean, streamlined, while still keeping the contents inside visible. Get a whole row or two going, pop a label on those puppies and you will feel like you just saved the world.

6. simplehuman Adjustable Shower Caddy

I know I’ve spoken about this particular shower organizer before (surely I must have?). I’ve used it for a couple clients in the past and they’ve all been exceptionally pleased. What tipped the scales and landed it among the coveted favorites? The fact that I got it for myself (finally) and experienced an instant shower transformation. The situation is now close to spa-like.

Adjustable from side to side and up and down, this guy also has lots of little hooks and crevices for loofahs, razors, and maybe toothbrushes if you’re into doing that in the shower (some people are).

7. Gleener The Ultimate Fuzz Remover Kit – Blue

This thing again. I gushed sufficiently in the post It’s The Small Things: Fuzz, Lint, Pill Remover so I’ll leave it at that. Read the post for further explanation.

Old stuff + gleaner = like new.

8. Cobalt Blue Woven Palm Bins

I actually used this to contain (and help compose) a closet organizing prize for that pop up party a couple weeks back. Admittedly, I picked it because its size perfectly accommodated all the prize contents. But as I was packing the thing up and carrying it around I realized: hey, you know, this bin is the most striking shade of blue. Who ever saw such a beautifully blue organizing bin? Not I. And also there was this very slight mold-able quality to it. Like you could bend it just a bit into shape? Whatever.

Color. Vibrant. Blue, green, other colors I can’t remember for sure but can confirm the existence of.

9. Rugby Stripe Bins

You’ve probably seen these around. Their popularity is well-warranted; darn it if they aren’t the cutest.

Perfect for storing small toys, throw blankets, towels, and so on. Just slouchy enough to feel casual and slightly nautical, but still structured enough to actually contain things. Comes in various sizes. Did I mention stripes?

10. Hanging files

I’m pretty sure all I did during the months of June and July were files. Plus all the other organizing but also all the files.

I have to hand it to them–The Container Store’s hanging files are superior to every other offering on the market. That’s what it is guys. Their color range is actually appealing, as opposed to those I-might-vom-atrocious-dark-green ones (No hate! Files are better than no files!). But it’s their finish and weight that really sets them apart; whereas other standard hanging file folders practically beg to incur smudges and wilt with their cheapness, these are a premium cardstock that don’t feel at all flimsy.

Get them. They’re worth it.

11. Homax Waste-Away Paint Hardener

These are a slightly random addition to the favorites roundup, but trust me when I tell you they are more than deserving.

There will come a day when you will set about to declutter your collection of household paint, and when that day dawns you will take to The Google to find out what in the hell you’re supposed to do with it and how you go about making that happen. And someone, somepagewhere will tell you “you can like totally just use kitty litter! It’ll be great! Yay!” And on that day you will go “No. Liar. Live Simply told me not to waste my life away stirring cat excretion absorption pebbles into cans of decade old paint.”

Technically the cat deal works, but listen: spare yourself. These convenient paint-hardener packets are like magic, work in mere seconds, and require amazingly minimal stirring.

We should really stop talking about this now before things take a turn towards bitter.

12. Stacking letter tray

I’ve had many clients have success with these letter trays lately as a way to organize incoming mail. They stack beautifully, are great quality, and feature space for the addition of a label.

That’s the end you made it congrats thanks a milli and tell me: what have your favorites been this past month (or two)??

P.S. Pics stolen from my instagram–oh hey! Another place for you to follow me!

So…?

Can’t get enough of the Linus pantry bins. Great in the pantry and the fridge too. Made a “Leftovers” bin and a “Kids snacks” bin so they can help themselves. Thank you for posting them!
