Time Saver: Pick Out Clothes In Advance

February 13, 2013

One sure-fire way to save time in the morning (13 more ideas on how to do so here) is to select clothing in advance. Few things gobble up as many moments as finding the right top does; surely we can all attest to that. Doing so can be especially challenging for the wee ones, even those with a distinct fashion sense. Smooth out the garment selection process by having children pick out their clothes the night before, or a whole week ahead of time.

It should be noted that while the majority of the photos and text herein are directed to the under-10 set, this tactic is certainly applicable to people of all ages. Outfit pre-selection doesn’t discriminate.

Below, a few proposed systems for accomplishing this.

1. Clothing dividers

Identify intended outfits with the use of clothing dividers (some examples: Blank Closet Rod Divider Sugarbooger Children’s Closet Dividers Simple Division Garment Organizers).

2. Clothing dividers + hooks

If you want to further distinguish the week’s outfits from the rest of the wardrobe, you may opt to hang some individual hooks on a closet door. Keep clothing dividers on hangers or on the hooks, themselves.

3. Over the door hooks

If you’re into the whole hook thing, but don’t want the commitment of nailing one into a door or wall, then an over-the-door rack is a suitable substitute.

4. A hanging shelf

I’m not usually wild about these, but for the purpose of holding a few outfits, I believe they’d fit the bill. These are along the same lines as the picture below: kids hanging shelf, hanging shelf closet organizer.

5. Dresser drawers

Transform a regular old dresser to an outfit organizer by adding day of the week labels to individual drawers.

When pre-selecting outfits, be comprehensive: might as well throw a pair of undies, socks and any desired accessories with your top and bottom as well.

Have you ever tried implementing this AM time saver?

I cant believe how organised this all is, I would have to go along way to getting to this , I once had color coded shirts for work , i had 5 each a different color , it was easy to get dressed in the morning 🙂

I had a ‘ready chair’ my parents instituted when I was younger, to assist me in the mornings, but this is the ready chair times 100!!! I love this!!
