Spotlight on Jessica Helgerson Interior Design

October 19, 2012

Happy Friday, chipmunks! Today I am so genuinely excited to showcase the work of Jessica Helgerson Interior Design.

I look at a lot of design images. We’re talking probably to most likely eye-damaging amounts of screen staring at interiors. When I stumbled upon the designs featured in today’s post, well, I had to pause. There was something about them– a feeling of freshness (which perhaps has something to do with the prominence of green living things called like plants evident in almost all the shots). There was the sense that a great gust of fresh air had blown in through my window that wasn’t open, and I concluded that the only appropriate action would be to send it blowing on over your way cause who doesn’t like fresh air anyways?

Truthfully, JHID doesn’t represent the norm for me in terms of aesthetics– perhaps in general I gravitate towards interiors with a bit less foliage– but despite myself, I’m drawn to the very organic vibe, the masterful mix of rustic and clean. See what I mean:

You’re all, “Jessica, are we inside or outside?” And like, “Where is this kind-of rustic retreat in the world?” And then you’re all, “oh, that’s the point, isn’t it J. H.?”

Those cottage-y bunk beds are nothing short of adorable, and if you can’t agree on that front, I’m not sure at all about you, actually.

Below, a different take by Lady Helgerson on the children’s quarters; no less inviting, I hope you’ll agree.

Followed by the most soothing powder room I’ve encountered in quite some time.

And now of course, this being my blog, me being a white-devotee, I can’t help but to overwhelm you with Madame Jessica’s work in le kitchen.

It’s so clean, but it’s so natural. Like… really clean granola. Or something.

I’ll admit, we’ve now entered fully self-serving white spaces. But god, Helgerson, homegirl, you just do them so well!

I have saved the best for last. This particular kitchen was, in fact, what drew me into the world of JHID to begin with. Prepare yourself for utter confusion that’s simultaneously immensely pleasing as you ponder how a design firm located in Portland, Oregon might have erected a space you would swear is in Tuscany.

Perhaps it really is in Tuscany. We shall never know. And it’s always better that way, anyway.

oh my, that first kitchen is perfection. is that marble tiling?? i mean, really. you’re right, the greenery does add so much to the spaces… unfortunately, our cats would eat the plants if we tried that design element.
