Spotlight On A Home That’s A Study In Pink

September 15, 2016

So, pink is a color, one that tends to be quite divisive.

People generally adore or abhor the hue, and my money says that’s down to its relation to gender roles. Touchy subject, let’s move along.

Point being, pink is usually done in carefully thought out and restrained doses in interiors. Soft pinks may be acceptable inside the nursery, but rarely feature outside those hallowed walls. Occasionally, one might discover a pop of pink (singular) in a home; a pink sofa for statement, a piece of pink art, a bit of pink in a rug. But never all together. That would be pink overload, surely. Try picturing pink as the main color palette in a home and you’re left with either no visual at all, or some trippy Pepto Bismol Willy Wonka situation.

Well, that was the case until Suellen Gregory came along, anyway, to show us that we haven’t known pink at all. This stylish, family home in Virginia is a study in pink by designer Suellen Gregory...get ready to take notes! So, what do you…pink?

I am in the camp that adores pink. One of the reasons we bought this house was the pink paint treatment on the living room walls. Our other two homes had pink walls as well, but I had to paint those. We joke that I chose this house to save time.

And I am not surprised by the breed of dog lounging on the bed, as my own King Charles Cavaier snores beside me.

When I was a young girl, I stayed away from pink and flowers and anything else that fit into the stereotype of “girly,” which itself was a perjorative. But as an adult, I find I enjoy those things, so I now embrace them.

So…we just identified your home/canine/lifestyle doppelgänger is what you’re trying to tell me?? 😉

I like pink a lot. Combined with, say, brown, it brings a richness to what otherwise might be considered dull colors. Pink also looks great against the deep garnet-colored walls of my living room.

Excellent points girl. Also, I want to see your house…

My husband chose a natural pink sapphire as my wedding ring…which everyone said suited me. I really- no REALLY, like pink; it is the essence of femininity. I like certain shades of it on men as well. The house above has some areas that are beautifully executed, however I couldn’t imagine doing that to my husband. For lack of better word, he’s a good ol’ boy… a man’s man…he enjoys poker, cigars, bourbon, steak, and football. I personally love the bedroom and bathroom accents…but I think I could only do that in my extra room, where only I could appreciate the splendor. So… I wonder…does a man live in the house above? And if so, what is his take?

Of course you have a husband that chose you a pink wedding ring that perfectly suits you.

You know, funny you mention that…I almost brought that up in the post and then didn’t for some reason.

Apparently a family, husband/dad included reside in the pink house in question, and apparently they all really like it…

So either there are men’s men that love pink out there, or people know how to pick their battles and be mum about personal reservations in the presence of journalists. 😉
