Pants Hangers (Rods, Racks, Slats)

December 21, 2012

It’s rather odd, but despite how much time I’ve spent in closets, I have yet to encounter this alternative method to hanging pants. Do you know the one?

Rather than being hung on regular hangers, the pants are folded over a rod/pole/slats, which I suppose must extend out (like this gliding pant rack), or hung on open-ended hangers.

It’s fairly unfair of me to judge such hanger apparati without actually having used them. Nonetheless, I’m not convinced. Can anyone speak to this very critical issue? What’s the deal with these? Are they somehow fabulously convenient? Or in fact annoyingly cumbersome?

If you possess firsthand knowledge of the pants hanger in question, please be so good as to shed some light on the matter, for all our sakes. A lot is riding on this. Don’t ask what.

I use open ended hangers for all our pants and I love them. I love that they hang neatly and there are no clips etc to get caught up or leave marks etc. You can also easily hang your pants so that they all the same length which looks nice and neat. Absolutely perfect for heavier items like jeans.

They are removable though – I have never seen the ones that look like they are attached to the closet and part of the furniture.

They look great when you have the exact right number of pants to fill them.
More pants than rods – you may as well stick to hangers (which you can easily add or subtract).
More rods than pants – well, i know what I would do … go buy more pants to fill them!

Like Melissa, we use a couple of open ended hangers for pants that I love. I really love the look of this though and I think my husband would prefer this method too. He has a tendancy to pile five pairs of jeans on one poor little hanger so that he can pull them all out at once and decide which ones he wants. If he could see each pair individually, it may save the lives of a few hangers.

hmm never tried them but not sure i’m into it. i like the nice thick wood hangers best for men’s pants. but let’s be honest, no matter what kind of hanger is there, what’s the likelihood the men will use them? 😉

My job is being a ‘household manager’, so taking care of clothes and closets is part of it. I like the idea, and have worked with these hanging systems, but the one thing to remember is the thicker pants (jeans, or any other heavier material) will need a smidge more room where the waistband is, and bump the next one over. With nice, dressy, ladies’ pants the system is great. For the record, the husband of my current primary employers is really organized, and he sets the bar high for ME!!!

Yes – I purchased mine as a module from IKEA, and I love it. I use it to hang my dress pants as well as long skirts. It’s super easy to choose which pants you want, and it slides out so that they can be hidden. They all fit the same, so they stay very neat. In drawers, I usually end up with a lumpy side where belts/cuffs are, they get overstuffed, and I can’t see them all!

They are horrible if you like pants crisp and even. The pants just fall haphazardly over the rod and it is troublesome to even them out. Also, if the hanger does not have a stop at the end *all* of your pants fall off the hanger. Huge pain.

Does anyone know where I can buy these racks/rods? I think they’d be perfect for my scarves.
