Organizing A Stockpile of Spare Buttons

November 29, 2012

Clothing manufacturers, if they’re generous, will supply you with a spare button or two in a stealth pouch affixed to your spankin’ new garment. It’s a subtle attempt on their part to prolong the item’s longevity. Considerate.

Then you come along: consumer. In your impulsive and excited state, high from the scent of new merchandise, you rip off any visible tags, stickers, pouches, sling them in the nearest trash before pivoting ever so slightly back and forth in front of a mirror, thinking how fantastic you look in your new jacket. And then life happens and a button falls off and now who’s the fool?

Just do this, bumblebees: Keep the spare button. Forge a space for it in your life. Establish a solidified spare button home. When you get one, it goes with the others.

One way to do this is to purchase some mini clear zip lock bags, deposit each button within, and make a note of which garment the button belongs to.

Deposit your baggies into a larger box, basket or bin.

You might also file away your button pouches with the help of some business card organizer pages.

Wham, bam, thank you ma’am and all that good stuff.

K bye!

This is extremely helpful! For the longest time they lived in a state of confusion in a giant tub. Lost with no direction. Whenever I needed one of these, I would hopefully go to the tub and give up- not knowing who belonged to what garment. Duh.

Oh my goodness – I needed this post. My spares are in a plastic box (I thought I was semi-organised keeping the clothes tag with each button but this is just so much more efficient and effective. I’ve just subscribed to your amazing blog by email.

My spares are in a drawer, each in their own bag, but it’s still not organized! Love the idea of a business card holder!
