The Ideal Closet: Pull Out Rod

January 9, 2014
If we could build the perfect room from scratch, what would it look like? What features would it contain? Let’s have ourselves a little daydream…

Last week I made the egregious (and massively out of character) error of leaving my step stool at one of my client’s. I’ve been not reaching anything since, which is perhaps why I can’t think beyond today’s ideal closet feature.

The ideal closet definitely has this feature! The pull-out rack--for easy reaching of top clothes racks!

Pull down closet rods are an invention short and/or handicapped people need to get involved with, in my opinion. And not merely them; seems everyone bemoans their lack of storage space, and one of the capital ways to increase that entity is by taking advantage of all possible vertical space. Pull down rods allow you to hang clothing at a height much higher than would normally be feasible, thus making use of said vertical space, while retaining ultimate accessibility, thus, Live Simply.

Thoughts, comments, concerns? Sign up sheet for installation? Talk amongst yourselves, cause this be Thursday and that there’s all I gots.

Hi, this is a great idea!
I’m not sure if this applies in the States, but in the UK there has been a move away from saying ‘handicapped’ It’s not deemed politically correct anymore. The word derives from Victorian times when people with a disability that were unable to work had to beg ‘cap in hand’ for money. Just thought I would point this out, I am sure you would never want to inadvertently offend someone :0)

Hi Susan, don’t think the term has the same connotation here in the states, or at least not in my family, as my mom herself is handicapped (I.e. Wheelchair-bound). Also let the record show that the reference wasn’t made in jest– this is very literally a terrific innovation for handicapped/ disabled people like my mom who can’t reach a tall rack– as in handicapped accessible.

I have a small space storage closet and definitely think a pull rod would be an amazing addition! I’m looking into it and whether or not its feasible for renters like me!

    Thanks for sharing!!

I had these in my closet & they were useless. Hard to pull down with clothes on them and
impossible to push back up because of the weight. I would not recommend them!
