Boots Storage Tips

December 20, 2012

Boots are exceptional in that they have the sartorial power of transforming even the most drab get-up to the level of an outfit, perchance even, dare I say it, an ensemble. But of course, those invested in fashion would retort that any footwear worth mentioning has such power. How would they advise us on how to store said boots? Well, I’ll take over from here…

Cubbies and shelves are suitable spots for boot storage, but ensure that they’re tall enough to accomodate the boots when standing upright (which they should be).

How to make them stand up straight? As it happens, this is one of the few instances in which I’d say it’s advisable to hold onto the packaging– keep the cardboard or plastic supports that your boots come with when purchased and that problem is solved from the start.

If you’ve already ditched the packaging (you’ll get no scolding from me on that one) you can still avoid the dreaded boot crease by way of some plastic boot shapers or, even better, some cedar boot shapers, which will not only retain your boots’ shape but absorb moisture and questionable odors as well.

Another popular storage strategy is to hang boots, a system which inherently ensures that they stand at attention.

You can purchase specialty boot hangers to accomplish this, or, as seen below, repurpose skirt hangers.

These are wonderful tips. Thank you. If you can see (or easily find) your shoes, then you’ll wear all of your shoes. In addition, it will take less time to find the pair you need when you’re rushing off to work. The right shoe storage product will help you take care of your investment and avoid a tripping hazard, to say noting of contributing to a neater room.

I found that the boot supports you can buy are quite pricey especially when you need 20 pairs. My solution, off to Ikea for those stiff mylar printed placemats. You roll them up, put them in your boot and voila! Boots are standing at attention. What is also nice is you can store the onces you aren’t using flat. If you are really frugal, rolled up magazines will also do the trick but they are quite heavy.

I use a good stiff rolled up magazine. Maxim or Allure. Vogue is too heavy and will fall over.
