Birthday Wishes, 2016

April 4, 2016

Oh, hey: it’s April 4th. Do you know what that means? It’s my birthday! As I do, I’m taking this opportunity to share my birthday wishes with you.

Here goes:

1.

I wish for clarity. For all. About all things. Always.

Because it is from inner clarity that action, resolutions, and the fulfillment of desires spring forth.

2.

I wish for boldness–for more boldness. I wish for the inclination to take more smart risks than I currently do. I wish to even further shed the fear of looking stupid in the process (I’m close; barely care now!).

3.

I wish for my talents and abilities to continue to be used; that I continue to feel as though my time is being spent in worthy cause. And I wish this for you, as well.

4.

I wish those people who are thanklessly slaving away at a job they hate realize there is a different way (if this is you: there is).

5.

I wish for us all to feel less pressure and less of a sense of expectancy from others to follow a prescribed “typical” life path.

I wish that we would relinquish the self-imposed obligation to please others so much, and we let go of the fear of how our differing life choices will make us stick out.

I wish that more and more, we will all claim our right to live as we see fit, and in the manner that allows us to be our best, happiest, most fulfilled selves, for the benefit of all.

And I wish that as we increasingly embrace this right, we become masters at celebrating each other’s beautifully varying life choices, rather than giving them the raised eyebrows of judgment, suspicion, or resentment.

6.

That we swallow this: there is no right way. There is no right pace. Despite what all your friends are doing, despite what everyone in your graduating class did, despite, despite.

So just breathe, take a moment, and figure your shit out, because this is your one and only shot and the clock is counting down.

7.

That we become less subservient to the rationale, “Because this is the way it’s always been done.” In our homes, in our closets, in our families, in our societies.

8.

I wish that stupid things like replacement razor blades and toilet paper and grout brushes were just free.

Thanks for playing the game of life, and here’s a jumbo laundry detergent!

You’re doing great; you’ve earned a pack of dental floss!

We noticed you worked your tush off last Tuesday and consequently, said tuchas has been sore ever since. Lucky that’s covered under our “I’m a Live Human” policy; here are three rolls of KT tape–free!

Other prizes I’d accept: a lifetime supply of Tracy Anderson protein powder, free reign to raid the stockrooms of beloved skin care lines, a butler whose job it was to change the sheets on my bed every single day. It’s not like I’m asking for a private jet gratis because, come on, just how realistic would that be?

(#PRIZEFORPLAYING let’s get it trending.)

9.

I wish for each of us to get precisely what we yearn for at our deepest, truest level, whether that’s twenty million dollars, or a farm with loads of chickens, or freedom, or will power, or mental discipline.

And I wish for us to realize that, as people of integrity (I’m giving you the benefit of the doubt here), we’re entitled to that.

10.

I wish we would learn to automatically scrutinize to the point of distrusting our doubts, and that we bet it all on faith and the fact that everything really is going to be okay. And better than.

11.

I wish that if you’ve been on the fence about hiring me you cut to the chase and make it happen, because I’m already pumped about all the fun we’re going to have getting you freed.

12.

And, as has become the tradition around here, I wish for you to share this blog and the Live Simply mission with the people you care about. Because I can’t wait to care about them, too.

the birthday wish sequence, and birthday wishes for me and for you.

p.s. The year I’m out of these throwback b-day photos will be a tragic one indeed. Let’s LOL while we can.
