15 More Things You Really Can Get Rid Of (Today!)

January 13, 2016

Oh, hi, and welcome to The Ongoing, Not In Any Particular Order List Of Things For You To Ditch.

Sometimes I’ll come home from working with a client and realize I saw at his/her home the things I’ve seen so many times before. The things that everyone seems to be in excess of. And when that happens, the only thing I can do is lift the lid and furiously type.

If you, dear, sweet one, are the owner of any of the items on today’s list, please know you have been granted (not that you needed it) full permission to let them go. Sans guilt, sans judgment, sans any sense of negativity.

Full disclosure: some of these things I mention just about every other day, and I will continue to do so. Research in the field tells me I need to.

Here goes:

15 things you REALLY need to get rid of TODAY!

1. Your excess of throw blankets.

Fleece ones that are pilled and coated in crumbs, the knitted ones that feel more like those weighted vests they put over you during an x-ray than a blanket, and so on.

2. Socks with no mates.

They’re not coming back. Move on. Get yourself new socks. New socks are the best!

3. Product packaging.

Seriously, tear my hair out or throw it out.

4. Pictures either on your devices or printed you don’t want or need.

The ones that are of nothing, of yourself with or without others looking wretched (in your opinion), of cities or places you could now easily google, etc. It is not a sacrilege to dispose of pictures. Gasp. The Horror! No. Wrong.

5. Scraps of leftover ribbon.

Is that little bit even going to be enough to make a proper bow?

6. Scraps of leftover wrapping paper.

Is that little bit even going to be enough to wrap a matchbox?

7. Gift bags you received that are so wrinkled, ugly or generally wilted you would never feel great about gifting something inside them.

8. Rubber bands that have lost their stretch.

9. Sports bras that have lost their elastic.

If there’s no resistance in your bra, you’re screwed (flopping wildly) in the gym.

10. Bras whose cups look like some dimpled doughnut ball.

You know what I mean.

11. T-shirts with armpit stains you can’t conquer.

Admit defeat. Buy a new pack of men’s undershirts. You’re worthy.

12. Towels you can’t remove the smell of mildew from.

Stop trying to resuscitate them. Because, do you really want to?

13. Your out of control, overgrown collection of tiny dishes.

14. Your silverware that was gnarled accidentally by the garbage disposal.

15. That cake pop carrier you bought during the minute and a half cake pops were really the thing.

If any of these items rang a bell for you, I want to hear about it! Which items on the list apply to you, and, more importantly, what are you going to do about that?

I gathered up all my old computer cables over the weekend and found Best Buy accepts them for recycling (along with other electronics). Checking that off my list.

I’m fairly new to your site and I love it! Do you happen to have a list (probably a long list) of things we should get rid of? I’ve seen a list here and there (like this one), but wondered if you have one showing everything as a whole. Thanks.
