Spotlight On Tanya Capaldo Designs

March 19, 2015

Happy Thursday Campers!

For the record, I’ve sustained so many cuts on my digits these past few weeks that typing has become truly difficult. I’m writing this post without the use of my right, middle finger and let me just tell you: there’s a lot of backspacing involved. You can go ahead and feel super guilty and grateful right about now.

But neither wind nor rain nor rogue recoiling measuring tape wound can keep me from you. Especially not when I come bearing the work of Tanya Capaldo Designs, and not only her work, but her work in her home, which is always slightly more interesting if you ask me. Like, when left to their own devices, without clients to please, what’s a designer’s end result then?

Evidently the 2-story home inside of a 1885 brownstone recently underwent a five-month gutting and remodeling under Madame Tanya’s direction. Plus, there’s the fact that the article from where I gleaned the aforeblogged information stated, “The previous owner hadn’t updated the space in decades, and Capaldo’s pre-renovation photos reveal an overstuffed diorama of 1970s kitsch (picture the Partridge family living in a house from Hoarders).”

So, I’m shuddering.

But let’s quit with the backstory and get to the ogling.

French-inspired kitchen with honed Carrara marble countertops, handblown glass pendant lights, and Mauviel copper cookware to complement the white tile and 48-inch stainless steel Wolf range. From Interior designer Tanya Capaldo's gorgeously chic renovated 19th-century brownstone.

This kitchen is somewhat of a masterpiece, if you ask me.

Turns out Tanya’s background is in the culinary world, so of course she had to have a proper French cook’s kitchen, complete with “honed Carrara marble countertops, handblown glass pendant lights, and Mauviel copper cookware”
to “complement the white tile and 48-inch stainless steel Wolf range.”

Like, obviously?

That custom steel library ladder stands as an homage to the prior steps.

That sitting area is the perfect yang to the kitchen’s ying, if you get me. Without it, the whole thing might feel overly rigid.

I can’t remember what room this is from, but whatever! Who cares! Just look at that beauty.

I have a thing for Lincoln which started back in the eighth grade, and so this vignette is very nearly perfect in my opinion.

And check out these two stallions.

I meant the lamps.

Tanya made sure not to leave any guests of hers in the lurch, either.

And she did herself a solid with might be the coolest, most sophisticated bedroom I’ve seen in quite some time.

Sign me up and tuck me in, Tanya.

Thus ends another week on Live Simply, except that Live Simply never really ends, but, you know.

I’m off to apply more liquid bandage, it’s that or Edward Band-aid-hands it. Mostly I’m alternating the two. But don’t you worry too much about me. I wouldn’t ask that of you, just that you be your best possible self and be tremendously kind to others and do what it is you’re mean to do and and–
