Spotlight on Shirley Meisels

October 5, 2012

One of my closest friends once attended summer camp in Canada. It was in this way that she forged her way into the Canadian social niche. The campers from Montreal were sweet, but those from Toronto– they possessed a certain “cool” factor; a sense about them that immediately established their fashion choices and their accents as cutting edge, covetable, and like, just all around really cool, okay?

Today’s post in fact has nothing to do with my friend or her friends, but rather is about another woman altogether: Shirley Meisels. She is, if you hadn’t guessed it, from Toronto. And it only takes a few instances of gazing at her interior design work at Mhouse, Inc to recognize that you can take the girl out of Toronto or you can keep her there but either way she will be cool and so will her designs. Why is everybody always trying to forcibly remove people from their habitats anyways? Shirley. She’s killin’ it. See below.

Things I love in this photo: symmetrical topiaries, herringbone backsplash, marble top island, Shirley.

Oh, and the bar stools. We shan’t forget the stools.

Below, see Meisels’ take on the study. I, for one, enjoy the window treatment happening, along with the bright and striped pillows. And let’s not forget to mention the wallpaper pattern, then echoed in the framed art. If that isn’t some Inception shit, I don’t know what is.

The most luscious cream sofa, made lovelier by the softly hued pink decorative pillow in its midst.

Here, Shirley tries her hand at the young lady’s desk. And she like, wins. I do believe this is quite possibly the girliest mix of elements I’ve seen in a space that doesn’t make me want to vomit. It’s positively infectiously candy sweet is all! But sophisticated, still, sweet girl, chic. Cool.

Another angle on the same room. If this was my friend’s room and I was ten, I would so want to sleep over every night that wasn’t a school night.

Moving on in years– Sh. Meisels’ rendition of sultry vignette.

Which continues on into the next…

The pillow. That pillow is everything to me. Shirley will you send me one?

Madame Meisels, you have done your namesake city proud.

As I was saying, back up your computers this weekend if you do anything. A statement isn’t considered random if it’s just good smarts.

gorgeous! toronto is definitely a hip city and so are its residents. i’ve spent a fair amount of time there and it’s really cool – very diverse, lots of cultural activities, and they have their own unique street style. really really love that kitchen and living room!

Ha I love what you say about Toronto. You’re so right, there’s a chicness deep within all who come from there and you can’t take it away no matter how hard you try. I actually think women from MTL are pretty chic as well….

Now onto Shirley Meisels…OMG! She kills it each and every time. I need that cream sofa in my life. Pronto. 🙂

Hope you’re doing well, Annie. Sorry I haven’t been around much. Life is still pretty hectic. I’m sick in bed though so I’m finally forced to take a break. Blessing in disguise?

    Have a great weekend! xoxo
