Spotlight On Carriage Lane Design-Build Inc.

March 5, 2015

Happy first Thursday of March. That feels a fairly respectable occasion, doesn’t it?

I say we celebrate, courtesy of Carriage Lane Design-Build Inc. The Ontario firm’s design arm is headed by Carly Nemtean, whose picture makes you want to be her friend just as much as her designs do.

Okay, let’s get this show on the lane. (Get it? You hate me? Fair.)

Obviously I love all white everything. It borders on ridiculous from time to time–we know this. Here’s the thing though: as I look through the work of Carriage Lane, I feel like there are many places where Nemtean could have easily gone all white, but decided to veer ever so slightly by adding a really perfect neutral. And Carly, I, for one, love it.

Like check out this bathroom; sure, those tiles would have looked stunning in white, but it’d almost be too expected. But make them grey and, well…

Lemme grab my face wash.

Here’s another case in point; Carly takes a white canvas, and then adds just a dash of flavor. That spotted paper is sublime in a small dose, and the aqua chair is the exclamation mark.

Par exemple 3: the kitchen. See how Carriage Lane could have gone all white but then didn’t? It’s so subtle that those of you with an affinity for loud colors are going to be cocking your heads and staring inquisitively at your screens, but for me, oh boyy.

In the entryway, it’s clean and rawther sleek with black and white and lucite.

And in the dressing room, it’s cute and soft and where are all the clothes?

Dreamy dressing room.

Don’t think Carriage can’t do downtown, though. Personally, I haven’t seen exposed brick look so good in quite some time.

This loft is utterly charming and straight out of an Anthropologie catalogue in the best way, is it not?

Case closed.

Have a terrific weekend and gosh, would you please Live it Simply, for you and for me?
