Product Review: Acrylic Organizer for Makeup

April 18, 2013

According to my reader survey, many of you would like to see more product reviews, as well as products I use personally. On that front, I’m more than happy to deliver, but I feel a disclaimer is due; most bloggers who feature ads, products, partnerships, collaborations, etc etc will pledge to their readers that said retail entities will only ever be presented if the blogger in question possesses a genuine love for them. It’s a courtesy to the readers, see. While I in know way mean to discount those disclaimers, I must expound on the rigor of my own.

Listen: it would be contradictory to everything I stand for, believe in, and strive to accomplish if I just threw meaningless, product recommendations your way. I respect you all yes, but truthfully it’s self-serving: I can’t abide anyone’s filling their spaces and lives up with a bunch of stuff, as my mission is to help people to streamline, clarify, and center.

That being said (is there a more annoying idiom?) there are times when what’s standing between you and being organized is just a product. That’s it. The product solves the problem. I have seen it time and time again; people attempt to DIY, to make-do, and it just doesn’t cut it. They struggle and struggle to maintain organization, oftentimes unsuccessfully. That is, until the day they finally just invest in whatever manufactured solution is required, and suddenly everything becomes easier. There is something to be said for the intention that is behind a purchase.

Furthermore, part of the Live Simply philosophy does encompass the aesthetic appeal; “It’s making it lovely.” It isn’t merely about paring down, but also injecting beauty. Incorporating decorative touches that reflect your style and contribute to a sense of comfort, nurturance and sanctuary in your space is extremely important in my eyes.

There are particular organizing and decor products and companies that I sincerely love and would vouch for any day. I want to be able to share those with you because I believe in their usefulness and appeal. I hereby grant myself permission to do so. But there’s a caveat: underlying every encouraged retail purchase is the steadfast expectation I have for you all: It’s got to be, like all things in life, a balance– an ebb and flow of the material objects in your life, rather than a one-directional collecting quest. Some goes in, some comes out. And also the non-negotiable rule: first you declutter, then you purchase.

If we both agree to those terms, then I can, in good conscious, offer recommendations of products I swear by the necessity of, or in which I see undeniable visual appeal and beauty.

Apologies if that was a pointless ramble, I just felt the need to clarify my intentions. Bottom line: I want your space to be beautiful and organized. Beautifully organized. That’s achieved through the perpetually dual process of removing the extraneous and adding the necessary, the lovely. I will continue to attend to both facets, and any and all material objects presented to you will be done so in as much as they align with my ultimate mission (see above, following colon).

Great, now that we’ve covered that, let’s move on to today’s product.

* * *

I’ve mentioned this product here and there, in a guest post and in the shop, but I haven’t explicitly rattled on about it here, and I think it’s high time I do so.

I can’t honestly recall how I was storing my makeup prior to purchasing today’s product. Suffice it to say, I’ve upgraded.

The acrylic makeup organizer. It’s so great guys.

Likes: that it’s clear so that I can see all my bits and bobs (that’s a British expression and oh how  I wish I had an English accent), and that the acrylic feels heavy enough to be substantial, without the fragility of glass.

Likes: that it’s got lots of compartments of varying size, which can accomodate everything from brushes and perfumes to compacts and tubes.

Likes: that it came with a handy lipstick organizer insert, which sits nicely inside one of the sections, or can be removed and placed anywhere your heart desires.

Likes: these smaller divided sections at the back are tall/deep, making them perfect for brushes, mascaras, eyeliners.

Dislikes: ummmm… nope.

I think it’s an around winner and if you’re struggling to organize your makeup, it would be doing yourself a ginormous favor to purchase this guy.

K bye!

P.S. If you don’t have counter space but rather drawer space, this acrylic cosmetic tray is the equivalent.

    I don’t understand the P.S. Please explain.

Oops, sorry if i wasn’t clear, dear.

If you want to keep your makeup/organizer inside a drawer rather than out on the counter, then the acrylic tray is a good “flatter” alternative. Same concept as the one I’ve shown, but you’d just lay everything inside the tray, rather than standing them up as you would on the countertop organizer. Make sense?
